Might have to come up with a belated “Dishonorable Mention” CINO award for Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI). From The Washington Times:
Stupak: The Pope and the Catholic faith does not control Catholic legislators. We must vote reflective of our districts and our beliefs. When I vote pro-life, it happens to be my own personal belief, also my district’s beliefs and the nation’s. As the polls show 61 percent of the American people believe we should not use public funds to pay for abortion. I agree with that.
No Congressman, the Pope does not “control us” but we properly form our consciences with Christ’s teaching which comes to us through the Magisterium (have an aide look it up for you). We then act and/or vote accordingly. What you are saying is that while you want us to ASSUME you are a “Catholic Congressman” who will do this, you are in fact a CINO Congressman who like so many others, will vote according to what the polls indicate will be beneficial to your re-election. On in the case of Obamacare, will even forgo your faith, the polls and wishes of your district if you think you can sell your Chamberlain-esque deal with Frau Pelosi.
